, together with Jan Kaplicky, heads Future Systems, an architectural and design practice based in London, recognised worldwide for consistently challenging traditional pre-conceptions of space and demonstrating environmental concern and efficiency, without the need to compromise on contemporary form. research is a vital ingredient for the practice and a balance between experimental and real projects is kept in order to remain at the cutting-edge of the field. Future Systems realized many prestigious projects such as retails designs for Comme des Garçons in New York, Tokyo and Paris and the Selfridges department store in Birmingham. For Established & Sons Amanda Levete designed the sofa “Chester” and the bench “Drift”.
is inspired by a piece of driftwood, or a line that has drifted backwards. It can be used as a bench or a table. It is made in two alternative materials; with a polished concrete finish or a layered timber construction to emphasis the natural grain. Drift came about after thinking of the bench as a line that has gently drifted backwards. Made of glass-reinforced polyurethane, the form is built up with a fiberglass lamination process, shaped to a mold. Dimensions: L 2880 x D 870 x H 420 mm. Materials: gloss-finish polyrethane. Colours: white, black, luminous orange.
