Born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1976, currently lives and works in Austin, Texas. Hundley is best known for his quixotic take on the world, employing sculpture and photography to appreciate that which is intangible, ethereal, or peculiar. His focus, roughly based on the optical experience of entopic phenomenon, utilizes varying combinations of experimentation, unpredictability, collaboration and humor—not only within the images themselves, but also through their construction and even interpretation. Hundley's images, with their signature amorphous shapes that float in and among everyday landscapes and serial street scenes create delicious juxtapositions, some scenes appear darkly ominous, as if a disquieting event is soon to take place, while others—often simultaneously—reveal the artist’s comedic sensibility, generating amusing recipes for the ironic or absurd. To note, none of the images are digitally altered—rather, human models leap like gazelles underneath segments of fabric, then captured at just the right moment, their identities are concealed and the textile forms take on another life. |
