Simon Hoegsberg, 30, was born and raised in Aarhus, Denmark. In 1998 he moved to London to study and practice photography for three years at The London Institute. The last of the three years on the course he spent crouching on the pavement on a short strip of sidewalk at Marble Arch at the end of Oxford Street - listening to hardcore heavy metal while photographing thousands of pedestrians walking into the frame of his camera. This project - carrying the title Private & Public - was his first project in a series of thematic photo projects evolving around a stubborn desire to understand and communicate life as he experiences it. In 2001 he moved back to Copenhagen, Denmark where he lives today - working as a freelance photographer. A few sources of inspiration: Authors Haruki Murakami and Paul Auster, metal- and folkbands Isis and Mahmoud Ahmed, Social scientist Malcolm Gladwell, V1 Gallery and the web.
