"I was born in East Sussex, England in 1984 and grew up moving around Kent and East Sussex where I spent much of my time in Rye and Hastings. I'm currently living in Swansea, Wales where I have been living and concentrating on artwork for the last 7 months but am now getting ready to move to London with the intention of exhibiting and selling work to make a living. My work ranges from hand-drawn/painted psychedelic patterns to photo-realistic biro drawings, abstract-expressionist work, everything in between and anything else I can think of (I have dabbled in collage, film, music and many other mediums and intend to take them all further in the future. My formal training is relatively little, I haven't been to uni yet and have only done as and foundation level studies of art although I do come from a very creative background (my Mum was an art teacher and my dad is a multi-instrumentalist who toured with a few punk bands in his time). My influences range from Picasso to David Hockney to Amon Tobin to The Aphex Twin... much of my pattern work begins as visual interpretations of music before taking a life of it's own.
I like vibrant colours, I like tone, I like shape and I like intricacy. I also like to use unusual mediums e.g. biro or felt-tips. I also do textile and interior design and I am interested in working in the fashion industry." (Paul Alexander Thornton)
