We had the great opportunity to talk to the french artist, Nadia Micault, who is also a graphic designer, filmmaker... this girl rocks!

NKR: describe yourself with 3 words.
NM: ambiguous, paradoxal and sweet
NKR: what sort of teenager were you in school?
NM: out of context
NKR: best moment of the day: two hour before bedtime, best day of the week: tuesday, best season of the year: spring, to create.
NKR: where do you work on your art projects? do you have a job?
NM: I work at home. I wish I could have an atelier soon. Actually, the sooner will be the better. I have many activities, but I always work as a freelance. So I'm a graphic designer, illustrator, webdesigner, animated films director. I have a painting activity too but I keep it for myself because I have unfortunatly no time to work on it on a satisfying way right now. That's also the reason why I let drawing and painting having an important place in my design work. I like to think that I can do my design job as Toulouse Lautrec or Egon Schiele did.
NKR: what kind of music do you listen to at the moment? is music a big influence on your art?
NM: Music is very important in my art. It allows me to focus better. I usually choose the sound I hear in order to be in the mood I need to create. If I need to be square, I'll listen to Autechre. If I need tenderness, I'll listen to some Aphextwin material. If I need to be sweet with cautions, I'll listen to Cocorosie. Nine Inch Nail is for "deep sexy". And so many others. I listen so many stuff than I can't summerise. I couldn't tell you my top 5. This is the same for movies. I enjoy them so much, that I can't point someone and say "this MY favourite sound". It definitly depends of the moment.Recently, I've been listening to depeche mode and Vitalic as well, but two days ago, it was Jackson and DJ Detect. Today is more about Buck 65 and Roots Manuva

NKR: why do you express yourself through this kind of art?
NM: I've always drawn in my life. This is the only thing that will never betrail me. I don't feel confortable with words, so I draw. I also have an obsessional needs of beauty. I've told once that I complete those needs hiding behind my drawings.
NKR: what's the technique you use the most, and why?
NM: I mostly use my computer now. When the fisrt time I tryed drawing on photoshop, I was so frustrated. So I did it again and again until I succeed getting something satisfying. Now I realise that computer possibilty are huge, and there is so much fun stuff to do with it. Sometime I draw directly on paper, I miss the painting material. Put your hands in the painting material is an incredible sensation. I guess I do it again when I'll get an atelier. Painting at home became a problem if I don't want my place to look like a complete mess. Computer allows to be faster to. I also like to play with the color levels. i can paint with other thing that color, but with its treatment directly. Quite technical but real fun for sure.
NKR: contemporary living artists. are there any particular ones you appreciate?
NM: I love Bill Viola, hypnotic and poetic with intense feelings. Pierre La Police makes me laugh a lot. Stephanno Ricci for his black material work. Murakami for the colors. So much, I can't summerise either! Typical question I'll say tomorrow "you stupid, you forgot xx, you love xx's work so much, how could you forget it!!!"
NKR: name a few artists whose work inspired you?
NM: Ingres, Caravage, Vuillard, Egon Schiele, Twonbly, Lautrec, Schiele, Romanec, Lynch, Jeff Soto, Da Vinci, Velaskez, and others and others. I don't focus on someone's work particularly, a general state of mind I guess.
