Born in 1978 in Paris, France where he currently lives and works.

Working uniquely with charcoal, Gabriel Leger explores his own vision of Russia, through archetypal characters, real people and still lifes. The fragmented, distorted and black & white images express a desire to view the subject from a distance; however, keeping in mind the notion of subjectivity, Gabriel Leger's work focuses on 'sudba' — a neutral concept meaning at the same time destiny and unavoidability. The Russian prison tatoo is a special language with its own codes and structure, which reflect every action of a thief's life; tatoos then become the thief's reality, he lives through them. By choosing specific tatoos and putting them in the right place, Gabriel Leger invented specific stories for each one of these persons, as if they had existed. Moreover, to keep alive the symbolic and ritual power of these bodies, the paper is really tatooed with a sharp metal point.
